On September 25, 2010, the Cultural Affairs Committee of the Studio City Neighborhood Council and the Museum of the San Fernando Valley saluted the legendary Republic Pictures on its 75th Anniversary with a Free Celebration at the former Republic Studios lot, CBS Studio Center, 4024 Radford Avenue, Studio City, CA 91604. Republic Picture's stars Theodore Bikel, Adrian Booth, Michael Chapin, Ben Cooper, Robert Easton, Coleen Gray, Eilene Janssen, Anne Jeffreys, Dick Jones, Jane Kean, Joan Leslie, Marjorie Lord, Jimmy Lydon, Hugh O'Brian, Peggy Stewart, Jane Withers and others attended this very special event.
Festivities included screenings of Republic films, serials and trailers, live performances of swing and western music, entertainment by gun spinners, rope twirlers, trick horses, cowboy poets, and a diverse collection of memorabilia. In addition, a speakers forum with prominent industry experts and Republic celebrities discussed a range of topics from creating sci-fi special effects to tales of working at Republic Pictures. A special Republic Pictures stamp cancellation ceremony of the U.S. Postal Service's Cowboys of the Silver Screen postage stamps took place. Founded in 1935 by Herbert J. Yates, Republic Pictures was an independent film production-distribution corporation with studio facilities. Republic exploded into national prominence with its focus in westerns, movie serials and B-films emphasizing mystery and action, the staples of Saturday afternoon matinees. The studio launched the careers of John Wayne, Gene Autry, Rex Allen, Roy Rogers, and rocketed serials like The Adventures of Captain Marvel and Commando Cody: Sky Marshal of the Universe into the public imagination. Notable Republic Pictures include Under Western Stars (1938), Flying Tigers (1942), Macbeth (1948), Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), The Red Pony (1949), The Quiet Man (1952) and Johnny Guitar (1954).
 

Marjorie, along with Anna Maria Alberghetti, Hugh O’Brian and Jane Withers were among the 18 legendary Republic Pictures stars who unveiled the new Republic Pictures sign on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at CBS Studio Center on the Western Walk of Fame. The event kicked off a month long commemoration of Republic Pictures 75th Anniversary coordinated by the Studio City Neighborhood Council’s Cultural Affairs Committee. The new Republic Pictures sign will be affixed to the CBS Studio Center building above the former gate entrance at Carpenter Avenue.

A SALUTE TO TV MOMS

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented "A Salute to TV Moms" May 6, 2008 at the Academy's Leonard Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood.  The event was open to Academy members only, however, it was webcasted to the public.  TV Mom panelists include:  Barbara Billingsley, Marjorie Lord, Diahann Carroll, Doris Roberts, Cloris Leachman, Meredith Baxter, Bonnie Franklin, Vicki Lawrence, Catherine Hicks and Marion Ross.

REMEMBER LUCY: AN EVENING WITH MARJORIE LORD

Marjorie was the guest of honor at I Remember Lucy: An Evening with Marjorie Lord as part of the Lucy-Desi Days in Jamestown, NY in May of 2006.

Having worked with Lucy and Desi on two separate occasions in the 1950’s (and a third time with Lucy in 1971), the co-star of Make Room For Daddy has plenty of fond memories to share! But before Marjorie Lord took the stage, the rarely seen “Lucy Upsets the Williams Household” episode of the Danny Thomas series, filmed at Desilu Studios, was screened. Both Lucy and Desi guest-star as the Ricardo's in this classic 1958 episode.  Later that evening, the Tropicana Nightclub held a special gala reception with a very special lady - Marjorie Lord!  Sponsored by Elegant Edibles Catering. HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD

Marjorie was a guest on the first event from Paul Ryan's Comedy Studio on Feb. 28, 2006.  This series of events provides a rare opportunity to learn from the stars who paved the way in Hollywood, as they share their triumphs, their struggles, their craft and their secrets.  Betty Garrett and Johnny Grant joined Marjorie during the discussion.  Afterwards, Marjorie stayed and autographed copies of her  memoir.

CINECON CLASSIC FILM FESTIVAL

Marjorie was a special celebrity guest at the Cinecon Classic Film Festival, held Sept. 1-5, 2005, in Los Angeles, California.  Marjorie attended a special screening of one of her earlier films, HIGH FLYERS, and afterwards signed copies of her memoir. 

ROUND TABLE WEST

Marjorie was a celebrity guest at three recent Round Table West luncheons.  On March 24, 2005 Marjorie, along with Marcia Wallace and Audrey Schumacher, spoke to attendees at the luncheon at the Newport Beach Country Club.  On March 28, 2005 Marjorie joined authors Jed Allan and Boze Hadleigh at the La Quinta Club & Resort.  And, on April 21, 2005 Marjorie joined Leonard Marlton and Stefanie Powers at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.  Below is a photo from one of the luncheons.
